FFM are proud to present an evening’s live music from Bill Madison on our very own Live Lounge. Just click on Bill’s picture to go to the gig. Saturday, August 25th, 5:00pm Eastern Time (9:00pm GMT)

Bill Madison’s musical career spans more than 50 years; performing in the Folk Music venues of Boston, New York City and Montreal during the Folk Revival of 1960’s, and playing in the ski resorts and honky tonks of Northern New England from the 1970’s to the 1990’s.

In 1973, he produced and released his first album called “Sunday Mornin’ Hayride”, on his own label called “Saloon Records”. That album has been re-released by Riverman Records and Yoga Records and was voted in the top ten retro re-issues for 2009 by the Acid Archives. As was predicted, the album has become a “classic in the folk/blues idiom”.

In 1974, Bill took part in forming ‘Them Fargo Brothers’ which became New England’s Premier Country Rock Band. They toured extensively throughout the Northeast and Bill toured with the band until 1990. Pictured below is a group picture taken at their last band reunion in 2011.

Deena Ade ‘The Cries of My Subconscious’ PRESS RELEASE

Deena Ade proves different from the current roster, a music critic said last week. A smoky new voice in the Nigerian music industry. It is smoky, sultry and powerful in smooth runs with unique melodies throughout the record. Deena almost loses her mind in emotion of Let It GO, but it is a vivid description of confusion in love. She moves from house to soul with ease, although genre hopping isn’t new from this young super star.  Deena Ade has grown from strength to strength, since her last project “The Side Chic”. Once again, she does not hold back her feelings. Whether it be anger, need or sexual desire.

NATIVE MAG “Everything from her sultry vocals to her to the lyrics screams sexual empowerment”

DJ Douglas of TheBeat 99.9FM “The music is honest, something that isn’t being done. Especially with female artists.”

Monstar of Chocolate City “The music is provocative and it oozes soul”

Tec of SDC “This is the type of music that is missing from the sphere”

‘Down’ has been critically acclaimed and has been receiving continuous support from radio all over Nigeria.

The music on The Cries of My subconscious is a beautiful blend of Neo- Soul, house music, hip hop and Afro beats. Deena doesn’t compromise her signature style of soul and swag on the upbeat songs. Topics vary, from wanting and seducing a potential partner on MELO, to almost crying on the track LET IT GO to a partner. She appeals to a partner to not play games with her on SHERE and competes in a game of mind in LOVER.

All these songs have a common underlying theme of love and pain, as you see in the promo pictures. The music has been heavily influenced by Amy winehouse, Tiwa Savage, Beyonce and Nicki Minaj. Artists she looks to for inspiration.

The reception Deena Ade has received from blogs, magazines, radio stations such as the Beat FM Lagos and Ibadan, Kiss FM Lagos, Ray FM to name a few. As a result, Deena Ade is planning a small concert of her catalog. This will be happening in June

This Is America: Nicole Arbour defends ‘women’s edit’ of Childish Gambino hit

A YouTuber who created a “women’s edit” of Childish Gambino’s This Is America video says it’s been “misinterpreted”.

Nicole Arbour describes her post as a “female positive/empowerment video”.

She’s faced strong criticism online – including accusations of belittling “black pain” and “stealin[g] our culture for money”.

Others told her to “stop cheapening black art and creativity” – but Nicole says people are “wrongly portraying this as white vs black”

Donald Glover’s original This Is America music video was released on 5 May and was praised for its commentary on issues like racism and police violence.

One week later, Nicole posted her own version online.

Many people have argued that her video makes light of “black pain and oppression”, as well as “editing out the race issues in favour of the feminist issues.”

Nicole responded on social media, saying “this was not the intent or theme at all”.

“It was created with every intention of bringing a light to women’s experiences,” she said.

“It was a tongue in cheek way to give additional glory to what I believe is the most impactful piece of art in recent years.

“Due to the sensitive nature of the original, I understand why some people are wrongly portraying this as white vs black,” she added.

Nicole ended her statement with a call for others to “create their own version of this video”.

“Through this honesty, I believe we can discover a new level of empathy and understanding for each other.”

This isn’t the first time a Nicole Arbour video has caused controversy.

In 2015, she uploaded “Dear Fat People”, which was called out for fat-shaming.

“That video was made to offend people,” she said at the time, addressing the video on US chat show The View.

“It’s just satire, I’m just being silly.”

One Million Guitars – A chance for all children to discover music

Music is the only true universal language. The transformative power of music is unparalleled. It unites continents and humans like no other medium. Yet access to music education for our most vulnerable communities continues to diminish.

One Million Guitars is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Foundation on a mission to impact the lives of millions of children around the globe through the power of a musical instrument. Having early access to music education can transform the future of a great learner and affect the trajectory of their entire life. Apart from the subjective notion that music lifts the soul, it has been empirically shown that learners with the benefit of a musical training excel in other academic and creative domains. Yet so many of our brightest minds, those that can inspire future generations to improve our world, do not have access to a music education.

One Million Guitars, 1MG, is going to fix this dilemma, one guitar at a time. Under the leadership and vision of master musician David Broza, a lifelong peace ambassador and children’s advocate, over the next five years, 1MG will distribute more than one million guitars worldwide to children and leverage social media to create an online music academy and community of engaged, young learners.

These millions of kids will each be empowered by and granted a 1MG scholarship that includes a beautiful professional instrument built to last, online training by world renowned recording artists and professional musicians and access to local events and peer to peer training.

This all starts and ends with a kid with a guitar. Given the opportunity to surface the best version of themselves., millions of like minded children around the world will unite in a global chorus of personal growth, potential, diversity and peace.

Join us on this quest to bring the empowerment of music education into the lives of millions of kids.

How does it work?

1MG offers a 1MG Scholarship to young students that includes the 1MG signature guitar, extra strings as well as the 1MG starter instruction book. Students then need everything they need to start on their transformation journey. Additionally they will have access to online video tutorials created by some of the world’s leading artists as well as community contributors.

How can I help?

You can join the community of passionate individuals making a difference in million of kids lives in a variety of ways. Contact us to join the 1MG team and help in creating instructional content, doing community outreach and starting a 1MG group in a community in need as well as help our fundraising efforts. Contact Us

How do I contribute?

Head over to our GoFundMe.com page to contribute to our tax-exempt 501(c)(3) Foundation. Your contribution will go directly towards facilitating the 1MG program and manufacturing and distributing 1MG Guitars. Every $100 contributed facilitates another life altering event for a child that would otherwise never experience the transformative potential of a musical instrument.
